Ucom Supported the First-ever Western Asia Regional FPV Drone Race in Armenia

With the support of Ucom, the ArmDrone Community NGO organized the first-ever Western Asia Regional FPV Drone Race in Armenia. For the second consecutive year, Ucom has served as the community’s main technology partner, supporting its educational and technological initiatives.

The race brought together more than 100 top pilots and industry representatives from Armenia, Russia, Georgia, Kazakhstan, and other countries. Conducted in accordance with international MultiGP standards, the event aimed to support the development of the unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) sector in Armenia, promote the application of innovative technologies, and enhance participants’ professional skills and competencies.

The final stage of the competition took place on May 17, during which the winners were announced in three categories: in the Beginner Class — Vardan Avetisyan, Hayk Tarumyan, and Ashot Mikaelyan; in the Semi-Pro Class — Sargis Tatosyan, Vahagn Bekverdyan, and Arthur Aslanyan; and in the Professional Class — Dmitrii Savinovskii, Maksim Nor, and Matvey Pochekunin.

“As part of our corporate social responsibility strategy, Ucom is pleased to support this initiative, which contributes to the formation and development of Armenia’s technological community. We highly value events like this that give young people the opportunity to explore the cutting-edge technologies and develop engineering and creative thinking. We are confident that unmanned technologies have great potential across various industries, and such initiatives contribute to positioning Armenia as an innovative technology hub,” said Ralph Yirikian, General Director of Ucom.

This year, Ucom also presented a special award to 16-year-old Rafik Adamyan in recognition of his active participation.

The race is expected to raise awareness about UAV technologies and expand the opportunities for their applications in Armenia. The knowledge and skills gained by participants can later be applied in various fields, including UAV operations, agricultural drone usage, drone maintenance and repair, aerial filming of tourist attractions and destinations, as well as participation in international drone races and the organization of similar events in Armenia.

“It is very important for us that we are able to organize a race in Armenia in line with MultiGP international drone federation standards and with the participation of the region’s top athletes. We did everything possible to ensure the competition was held properly and remained in Armenia. We are grateful to our main technology partner, Ucom, whose support made it possible to hold an event of this scale,” said Hayk Karapetyan, founder of the ArmDrone Community NGO.

The race serves as a platform for cooperation and experience exchange among UAV manufacturing companies, the technological community, and young people interested in the field.

*FPV drone (First-Person View) — A type of unmanned aerial vehicle that allows the operator to control the drone from a first-person perspective. Through a video transmitter mounted on the device, the camera feed is transmitted to the operator’s video receiver (FPV goggles), enabling control over long distances. This technology is widely used in filmmaking, education, and international drone racing competitions.
