What products are dangerous for kidneys?
A diet high in processed foods can lead to a leaky gut, which in turn increases the risk of kidney dysfunction, scientists from Monash University noted.
The results of their research were published in the journal Science Advances.
Researchers have found that the end products of excess glycolysis contribute to inflammation and chronic kidney disease. These potentially hazardous substances are found in cooked foods and give fried and baked foods their characteristic flavor and aroma. They are also added to potato chips, baked goods, chocolate, and pastries.
The inflammatory response, however, can be suppressed by introducing foods containing starchy fiber into the diet, which, according to scientists, restores the functioning of the intestines and kidneys. These include oats, cooked and chilled rice, barley, beans and peas, potato starch - as a dietary supplement - and boiled potatoes.
Experts remind that processed foods are dangerous not only for the kidneys but also for health in general. They increase the overall risk of death, as well as from diabetes, hypertension, obesity, cancer, and gastrointestinal disease.
