Israel forming new Cabinet
President of Israel Reuven Rivlin has assigned leader of the Yesh Atid Party Yair Lapid to form a new Cabinet, TASS reports.
“Based on the recommendations of the political parties that are represented in parliament, I decided that MP Lapid will have the mandate to form the Cabinet,” Rivlin said during a special televised address. This statement comes after the last term of Prime Minister of Israel Benjamin Netanyahu to form the Cabinet.
Rivlin has assigned Lapid to form a new Cabinet since the country was in political uncertainty after the four elections of the Knesset held in the past two years. Lapid has 28 days to form the Cabinet. Netanyahu also had 28 days to form the Cabinet after the March 23 vote, but he failed to form the Cabinet until midnight on May 5. If the Cabinet isn’t formed, the 24th convocation of the Knesset will automatically be dissolved, and elections will be designated again after 90 days.
