Can polio vaccine protect against COVID-19?
A live polio vaccine can prevent coronavirus infection, Russian specialists reported.
According to RIA Novosti, earlier scientists have already said that Russians are protected from COVID-19 by nonspecific immunity - the same type of reactions of the body's immune system to infections. Back in the 1960s, it was hypothesized that a polio vaccine could mitigate the course of influenza. The Russian center tested this theory in relation to the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus.
60 volunteers were given a live polio vaccine, as a result of which they received a sharp decrease in the incidence in this group.
