Ucom, in cooperation with SunChild NGO, increases the access to drinking water in Lchavan community

Ucom and SunChild NGO implemented another infrastructure development project in Vardenis community of Gegharkunik region.

As part of this project, a 9.28 kWh solar power plant was installed at the Lchavan pumping station, which will help significantly reduce expenses on electricity consumption of the pumping station and provide residents with longer daily access to drinking water.

Previously, due to the high costs of operating the pumping station, residents had access to drinking water for only two hours a day. Now, thanks to the installed solar plant, access to drinking water will increase by 50%, significantly easing the daily lives of residents.

"As part of our cooperation with SunChild, we have installed multiple solar power plants, solving the electricity problem for communities. This time, it turns out we are solving the drinking water problem at the same time. I believe this is one of the best ways to show our commitment to corporate social responsibility—when companies with significant technological resources solve fundamental issues for the country’s residents, improving their quality of life," said Ralph Yirikian, General Director of Ucom.

"Solving the issue of drinking water in the Lchavan community with the use of solar energy is an important new step toward sustainable community development. The installed solar plant not only reduces the operating costs of the pumping station but also significantly improves the quality of life for the residents by extending their access to drinking water. It is important for the SunChild NGO to support projects that address both environmental and social problems, contributing to the long-term development of communities," said Martin Maralchyan, Chief Engineer of SunChild NGO.

"On behalf of the head of the Lchavan community, we express our deep gratitude to Ucom. The solar panels not only help increase community's water supply but also contribute to significant budget savings. Additionally, this serves as an example for other residents of Lchavan, encouraging them to install solar panels in their homes, thus contributing to the development of a long-term sustainable lifestyle for the community" – mentioned Karen Mkrtchyan, the first Deputy Head of Vardenis Community.

Note that last year, within the framework of cooperation between SunChild NGO and Ucom, a similar project was implemented in Vanevan, Vardenis community, where a 9.6 kWh power station was installed. This year, solar plants were installed in various locations in Tavush and Syunik provinces as well.
